 In
1984 Ketchikan Theatre Ballet was struggling financially and trying to find an
Artistic Director. They hired a former student, who had trained in New York and
received a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Cornish College of the Arts. As the new
Artistic Director, Marguerite brought her enthusiasm and dedication to dance back
to her hometown. For the
past 20 years Ketchikan Theater Ballet has grown to three dance studios and over
225 students, four instructors, a business manager and a development director.
Under Marguerite's direction, the faculty teaches creative movement, ballet, jazz
and tap dance to all ages, six days a week. During
her 20 years with Ketchikan Theatre Ballet, approximately 2,500 students have
gone through the program. Enrollment has steadily improved over the years, due
to the strength and appeal of the program under Marguerite's direction. Marguerite
has provided a positive influence n the lives of her students, and has earned
a high degree of trust, often acting as a mentor. Ketchikan
Theatre Ballet and Marguerite have brought the love and art of movement to thousands
of Ketchikan's youth. She has worked not for the money but for the love of dance
and the children of Ketchikan. I am pleased to announce this year's Outstanding
Youth Leader is Marguerite Auger of Ketchikan Theatre Ballet.
