What
kind of classes do you offer?
KTB
offers a wide range of ballet, tap and
jazz classes to students ages 4-18.
If you have prior dance experience,
please set up an audition with a KTB
instructor. This will ensure that the
student is placed in the proper class.
All other students start with our entry
level classes. Our age requirements
are:
Creative Movement - 4 year olds Pre-Ballet
- 5 year olds
Ballet - 6 year olds and up Tap - 8
year olds and up
Jazz - 9 year olds and up
Boys Classes - 6 years old and up
(4 & 5 year old boys attend Creative
Movement & Pre-Ballet)
When
are classes?
Classes
start September 8th, 2009
Classes are held from September through
mid-May, Monday through Saturday. We
are closed for Thanksgiving, Christmas
break and Spring Break in accordance
with the public school calendar. We
do have class on all other holidays,
school In-Service and Conference days.
What
does it cost?
Beginning
level classes that meet once a week
cost $450.00 annually or nine monthly
installments of $50.00. There is also
a one time $30.00 registration fee and
a Spring Performance costume fee of
$50.00-65.00. The costume and tights
are then yours to keep. Costs for more
than one class per week or more than
one dancer in the family vary and are
given at a discounted rate.
Are
there any requirements?
The
first requirement is that the student
have a love of movement and be willing
to learn. All students must follow the
KTB Dress Code and abide by the policies
outlined in our Student Handbook. Parents
are required to volunteer for each production
in which their child participates. Each
family is required to sell raffle tickets
twice per year for our winter and spring
fundraisers.
What
kind of clothes will I have to buy?
All females in ballet classes wear a
solid color leotard and pink tights.
Pink ballet slippers are worn by all
but our very youngest dancers in creative
movement and pre-ballet. Males wear
black dance pants and white t-shirts
and black ballet slippers if necessary.
Tap and jazz clothing varies slightly
from the description above and does
requires specific shoes. Tap and jazz
students may wear a solid color leotard,
jazz pants or Capri's and black tap
or jazz shoes. KTB has a Used Gear box
of items for sale. Be sure to check
it our before you purchase any items.
Most younger dancers outgrow their dance
gear before it wears out.
Is
attendance required?
While we understand that sometimes family
and school commitments come first, we
ask students and parents to understand
that the only way for a student to progress
in dance is to attend class on a regular
basis and apply themselves. Missed classes
result in frustrated students and teachers.
Will
my child get a chance to perform?
All of our dancers perform in our annual
Spring Gala performance in May. All
dancers in Ballet IV and above perform
in Nutcracker in December and our Ketchikan
Theatre Ballet Junior and Senior members
(our most advanced students) perform
every year as part of the Festival of
the North celebration in February.
What
if my child doesn't want to dance right
now? Can they join later in the year?
Unfortunately, unless a student has
previous dance experience, due to the
ongoing nature of our classes we typically
do not accept new students after October.
If they are eligible to take class but
cannot do so this year, we will gladly
put your dancer's name on our registration
list for the following year.
When
is registration for dance classes?
Registration for new students is Saturday,
August 22nd from 10:00am - 1:00pm at
the KTB Studio. We recommend that you
come early as class space is limited.
No new registration will be accepted
before August 22nd to allow our returning
students to register first.
Phillip
from the Empire Dance Shop in Spokane,
Washington, will here August 22nd with
dance gear items for your student to
try on and purchase.
